What to Expect in 2024
The Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) reimagines its annual convening and launches, PIT-UN Summit 2024, a gathering of trailblazers, visionaries, and future-facing thinkers shaping the next-generation technology globally. The two-day summit from Nov. 7-8 hosted on campus, in thought partnership with SJSU, advances the field of public interest technology through focused conversations, pivotal plenaries, creative spaces, closed-door networking, and interactive sessions.
The Summit will bring existing and emerging student leaders from academia, government, and for- and non-profit organizations together to develop frameworks and models for the responsible and inclusive uses of technology that is equally important to include our future workforce in this conversation. By engaging representatives from each group alongside students, we will be better prepared to discuss PIT in the context of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to ensure that new technologies are designed to be agents and catalysts for inclusion rather than exclusion.
About
The Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN) fosters collaboration between universities and colleges to build the field of public interest technology and nurture a new generation of civic-minded technologists. Through new curricula, research agendas, and interdisciplinary centers, PIT-UN members are developing the capacity, expertise and human capital needed to make public interest the norm in technology. A fiscally sponsored program of New Venture Fund, PIT-UN’s work is supported by the Ford Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, Mastercard Impact Fund, with support from the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, Schmidt Futures and The Siegel Family Endowment.
The founding campus of the 23-campus California State University system, SJSU provides a comprehensive university education, granting bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees offered through its nine colleges. With more than 36,000 students and over 3,700 employees, SJSU continues to be an essential partner in the economic, cultural and social development of Silicon Valley and the state, annually contributing around 10,000 graduates to the workforce. The university is immensely proud of the accomplishments of its more than 350,000 alumni, more than half of whom live and work in the Bay Area.
