About Jonathan Charron
Jonathan Charron started his career in forensics in the Controlled Substance Unit at the Sacramento District Attorney’s Laboratory after earning his Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology with minors in chemistry and criminal investigation from CSUS. After a year working as a drug chemist, he transferred to the Criminalistics section of the laboratory and began his work in the Firearm and Toolmark unit. During his tenure at the lab, he has also worked as a member of the crime scene response team. His training background includes graduating from the ATF’s National Firearms Examiner Academy where he is now also an instructor, becoming a POST certified instructor for the Homicide Investigation course at the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation (ICI), and has co-created a Distance Determination course for DOJ’s California Criminalistics Institute (CCI). In addition to his training and teaching experience, he has also served as the California Association of Criminalist’s (CAC) Editorial Secretary for the past six years and is a full member of the Association of Firearm and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE).
