Welcome to Electrical Engineering!

Electrical Engineering at SJSU

Greetings and welcome to the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department at San José State University.  We pride ourselves in being a prominent education and applied research institute serving as the cradle of engineering talent for Silicon Valley.

The EE department at SJSU provides a talent pool of graduates for high-tech industries in all areas of electrical and electronic engineering; and reciprocally, we receive collaboration, support, and feedback from industries that keep us at the leading edge of technology.  We are a department that advances with the progress of technology.  We collaborate with Silicon Valley companies to bring up-to-date technologies into our curriculum and provide courses that prepare our students for all fields in the Electrical Engineering discipline.  The core strengths of our faculty and curriculum include semiconductor electronics, wireless communications, machine learning, network security, image and signal processing, analog, digital and mixed-signal circuits, embedded systems, control and robotics, power electronics, and sustainable electric energy systems.

Typical Jobs

A graduate with an Electrical Engineering degree can get diverse job options and opportunities at many high-tech companies and government agencies.  Typical job functions can be designers, test engineers, project leaders, managers, and can involve software and hardware with electrical devices, components, systems, machinery, etc.  All high-tech companies in Silicon Valley hire Electrical Engineering graduates with diverse job titles such as Electrical Engineer/Designer, Software Engineer, Hardware Engineer, Computer Engineer/Architecture, Systems Engineer, Electronic Communication Engineer, Broadcast Engineer, Controls Engineer, etc.  Some graduates with Electrical Engineering degree pursue roles in aerospace engineering, sales engineering, software development, etc.

Student Clubs

Many Electrical Engineering students at SJSU are members of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Chapter.  The IEEE organization is the largest technical professional organization in the world.  The IEEE Student Chapter at SJSU supports its members in their studies and careers by providing group studies, course tutorials, extracurricular activities, access to industry information, networking, and career advancement.
