Minimum Viable Classroom Standard
The Minimum Viable Classroom (MVC) concept will allow SJSU to create a flexible, cost-effective learning space baseline equipped with essential technologies that enhance teaching and student engagement. It ensures that classrooms meet the basic needs of students & faculty, are adaptable to various teaching methods, and can be quickly upgraded or scaled to meet evolving educational needs. Working alongside campus partners, the classroom technology steering committee has developed work-in-progress preliminary core requirements.
Preliminary Core Requirements
- High-Resolution Displays – Wall-mounted digital display or projector: large, clear, high-quality
- Projector – Brightness, resolution, and throw ratio requirements
- Audio – High-quality speakers, microphone coverage, and assistive listening options
- Control System – Intuitive interface with centralized control
- Instructor Podium with Control Panel – Equipped with a control interface, monitor, and dedicated space for the instructor’s computer
- Cabling and Infrastructure – Standardized cabling, power outlets, and HDMI/USB-C support
- Ease of Use – Simple, user-friendly controls requiring minimal training
- Remote Monitoring – Ability to monitor system health and respond to issues remotely
- Accessibility – Compliance with ADA and other accessibility guidelines
