Maintenance
Websites aren’t digital filing cabinets of infinite space. They require ongoing work to keep information organized and up to date. Like a garden, a website needs to be maintained with careful consideration through regular pruning and maintenance tasks.
When you review your website, keep an eye out for these common problems:
Accessibility
- Wordy or complicated language
- Lack of headings
- Heading elements used out of order
- Images without proper alt text
- Images with embedded text (for example: flyers)
- Non-descriptive link text
- Tables used for layout instead of data
- Inaccessible downloadable documents (pdfs, PowerPoint presentations, etc)
Usability
- Broken links
- Typos
- Outdated/stale content
- Images that are too high resolution (more than 1 MB)
- Content duplicated in multiple places
Branding
- Blurry images
- Too much “stock photography”
- Non-original content
- Usage of copyrighted materials
- Custom logos
- Misuse of marks
- Inconsistent voice and tone
