Such employment is subject to CSU, Research Foundation, and sponsoring agency's guidelines.
Release time, also referred to as reimburse time, is the portion of time an SJSU employee is released from his or her university appointment to work on a research project. The university is reimbursed for a portion of the employee’s regular position. A maximum of 25% release time (overload) is allowed during the academic year for all campus activities, including work performed on research grants and contracts. A maximum of 100% time is allowed on federal awards and 125% time (not salary) is allowed on non-federal awards during winter, spring, and summer session breaks. Release time must be approved by the department chair and college dean; salary and fringe benefits must be included in the approved budget.
