CAMCOS
What is CAMCOS?
CAMCOS is a student research program in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San José State University (SJSU). Our goal is to give SJSU students the experience of working on a real-world problem in the applied mathematical sciences.
In each collaboration, a sponsor supplies a problem or topic in which it is interested, and provides modest financial support and a liaison for a team of undergraduate and graduate SJSU students to work on the problem, supervised by faculty PIs. At the end of each project, the team presents its results orally in a public forum and then presents a more detailed written report to the sponsor. We have worked with many different sponsors, such as NASA, IBM, Intuit, and the Ethereum Foundation.
Benefits of the Program
CAMCOS provides benefits to both students and sponsors. Students get valuable experience with the world of industry and with doing independent work, as well as contact with potential employers. Sponsors get useful research done on their problems, consulting time from the faculty, and observations of the work students (and potential employees!) perform before they graduate, all while supporting SJSU's mission to help its under-served student body.
