Director’s Welcome

Parinaz ZartoshtyOn behalf of all of us in Study Abroad and Away (SAA) at San Jose State University (SJSU), congratulations on taking the first step in considering a study abroad or away opportunity or looking for ways to engage in global teaching, research, and learning. In today’s interconnected and complex world, we understand the significance of graduating students who are prepared to thrive and to lead in our globalized world. We also appreciate the importance of involving faculty, staff, and administrators with international engagement.

Students, we invite you to explore the many different options available to you here at SJSU, which will ultimately contribute to enhancing and enriching your educational experience, while allowing you to grow your intercultural skills. You may want to consider studying at one of our partner universities through Summer School Abroad, SJSU Exchange, California State University International Programs (CSU IP), International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), or domestic exchange through the National Student Exchange (NSE). Or perhaps, you would like to look into one of our Faculty-Led Programs (FLPs) or Alternative Break Programs (ABP). The options are many and we encourage you to take some time to browse through the program options available. Once you have done so, please schedule an appointment with one of our team members to discuss your goals and move forward with the process.

In addition, please note that there are many scholarship opportunities available for study abroad students. We encourage you to explore those resources here and to reach out to us at spartansabroad@sjsu.edu if you have any questions.

Campus partners, we rely on your partnership to spread the word about the significance of study abroad and away. We ask that you review these pages with helpful resources to guide you through some of the critical advising tips.

Faculty members, we are grateful for your partnership as we look for ways to continue to increase our offerings, while also providing you with growth opportunities. Thank you for being allies, partners, and internationalization champions. Most importantly, thank you for providing these rich, global learning experiences for our students. If you are interested in learning more about the faculty opportunities, there are various ways to get involved. You can lead a FLP, collaborate on research and/or teaching, and so much more. Please do not hesitate to contact us so we can assist you.

Finally, students, staff, administrators, and faculty alike, please know that our team of dedicated international educators is here to help and support you. We look forward to finding ways to contribute to your continued success and to help explore ways to make these new educational and cultural experiences a reality.

We look forward to working with you!
