Campus Reading Program

SJSU’s Campus Reading Program fosters a culture of reading that helps orient first-time freshmen to college life while engaging all community members in campus-wide discussion and reflection on important issues of our time. Each year, a committee chooses one book that is given to all first-time freshmen during summer orientation. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to read the book during the summer and to participate in discussion groups and other activities about the book’s themes during the year.
The Campus Reading Program offers a wonderful opportunity to build connections with students, faculty, and staff across campus. If you are a first-year student starting classes in the fall, the Campus Reading Program will provide you with a common learning experience that will deepen your understanding of important issues while building lifelong friendships. If you are a faculty or staff member, you can participate in the committee that selects each year’s book and develop curricular and co-curricular opportunities for any group on campus.
