Sonya Renne Taylor is an artist, activist and the Founder and Radical Executive Officer of The Body is Not An Apology, a digital media and education company. Sonya has spoken on a variety of topics, from body empowerment, radical self-love as transformative action, intersectional social justice, as well as poetry and performance workshops.

King Library is kicking off our year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of Women's Suffrage on Wednesday, March 11th at 4pm with an opening reception featuring Dr. Bettina Aptheker. Dr. Apthker is faculty at UCSC and has taught and worked in feminist studies since the late 1970s.

Come in community to discuss how Latinx culture and machismo has shaped our ideas about body image and stereotypes of mujeres. In this workshop, learn how you can combat those ideologies within the Latinx culture. In this presentation, Dr. Larissa Mercado-Lopez, associate professor of Women's Studies at California State University, Fresno, will discuss her work as a children's book writer and sensitivity reader for children's literature. Drawing from black and Chicana feminist thought on the power of children's books, she will situate her work within the larger contexts of women of color feminism and Latinx children's literary writings.
