Faculty Research
Urban Planning and Geography are among the most research-active programs at SJSU. Department faculty are nationally and internationally recognized scholars who help inform policy, shape planning practice, and contribute to the scholarly discourse. In recent years, faculty have produced dozens of influential reports and award winning books and have been cited in major media outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, CBS Evening News and more. You can learn more about current faculty research through their profiles or visit our faculty books page!
Most recently, the department congratulates Prof. Kathrine Richardson on receiving a Cross Border Research Fellowship from the Border Policy Research Institute to support her research on the emergence of a high tech innovation corridor in the Cascadia region between Vancouver, Canada and Seattle, Washington. We also celebrate professors Rick Kos and Jason Su, along with their students and our partners at CommUniverCity, as recipients of a 2020 SPUR Impact Award for their collaborative planning work with the communities of central San José.
The department's commitment to professional and scholarly research extends to our students. Visit the Student Achievements page to see some award-winning student research.
