Career Resources
This webpage brings together a variety of resources to help MUP students find internships, jobs, and conference funding information. In addition, students are always welcome to meet with MUP faculty members to discuss career planning.
Finding a Job or an Internship
To assist students in finding an internship, we recommend joining the SJSU_UrbanPlanConnect-group (formerly SJSU_MURPs). This group provides a centralized location for information exchange among SJSU students, faculty, and alumni by sharing information about planning internships, jobs, and planning-related events in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay regions.
SJSU's Career Center also assists students in finding internships and jobs, as well as providing support on interviewing skills and resume preparation.
Once MUP students have completed their required 180 hours of professional work experience, they should ask their supervisor to complete the Internship Completion/Professional Work Experience Form [pdf] and submit it to the department.
Career Resources for New Planners/Planning Students
The American Planning Association provides a number of career-related resources for planners. Also, all new MUP students are eligible for a free one-year membership to APA. Contact the graduate advisor for more information.
A great resource for emerging planners is Rick Wilson's blog "Launching your Planning Career: A Guide for Idealists."
