Accomplishments

At Spartan Eats, part of Compass Group U.S.A., we source locally whenever possible. Produce is in season, or sourced from reputable growers and purveyors as we continue to purchase up to 25% of our produce from within 250 miles and meat and fish from within 500 miles. Our beef is humanely raised, and follows the practice of reduced antibiotics and unnecessary growth hormones.

We continue previous campus-wide campaigns, including the “Mug Life” campaign which offers students, faculty and staff a discount for using personal mugs. Waste Not is a program which measures and tracks food waste during production in the kitchen. Our “Straws Suck” campaign has removed straws from the fountain beverage areas and allows patrons to use our compostable sip lids. Day old pastries, bagels, and breads are donated daily to the Peer Connections Breakfast Club as well as the Student Wellness Center’s Food for Thought program, and reusable repurposed food is donated to the Spartan Food Pantry.
