At SJSU, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month. These events are brought to you by a variety of co-sponsors and planner including the Native American Student Organization (NASO), Gathering of Academic Indigenous and Native American staff and faculty (GAIN), the Mosaic Cross Cultural Center, and the Student Union.

“IYA” The Ex’celen Remember: Dinner and Reading Fundraiser

Time:6:00 pm - 8:00 pmLocation:For more than 12,000 years the Esselen cared for the most bountiful land of this continent. Today it is subject to a multi-billion dollar agricultural industry. Brought together by the land, an Esselen family reunites, but is weighed down by 250 years of colonization and the memories that haunt them. This show was inspired by Louise J. Tara Houska (Spartan Speaker Series)

Event starts at:,6:00 pmEvent is located at:,Tara Houska is a citizen of Couchicing First Nation, a tribal attorney, land defender, environmental and indigenous rights advocate, and founder of the Giniw Collective, an Indigenous women frontline resistance to defend the sacred and live in balance. Ms Houska was active in resisting the Dakota Access pipeline and is heavily involved in the movement to reclaim Land Back and in defunding fossil fuels. Ms. Houska served as an advisor on Native American affairs to Senator Bernie Sanders and co-founded Not Your Mascots. She has written for the women-led climate anthology "All We Can Save," The New York Times, CNN, Vogue, and more. Located in the Student Union Ballroom and will be live-streamed on Zoom.
