Each semester, offices and departments across campus host events, study spaces, tutoring programs, and provide resources to support students during the final exam season.

• November 27: Global Connections: Compassion to You  

  • This in-person session will focus on learning about the elements of self-compassion and thinking about how we can kind to ourselves in ways that fit our cultural background and who we are. While it may be easy to think that we should be kind to ourselves, this is easier said than done.

• December 4: Global Connections: De-Stress Activities

  • Our final Global Connections meeting of the semester will give you an opportunity to reflect and relax through puzzles and arts and crafts. Stop by and take a well-deserved study break!

• December 5 & December 7: Fueling up with Festive Fun before Finals!

  • Need a study break? Fuel up this finals season with festive arts and crafts, cookie decorating, and snack packs and hot chocolate! We’ll also be watercolor painting with To Be Honest on Dec 7th.

• December 5: Home Alone for the Holidays: Festive Movie Night Spectacular  

  • Come by for a holiday-themed movie night to destress before finals weeks. Enjoy a holiday movie classic like “Home Alone” which fits in with the festive spirit while enjoying laughs with your fellow students. Enjoy some delicious desserts, hot chocolate, Pizza, and other goodies.

• December 6: In Full Bloom: Bouquets and Letters    

  • This event at San José State University provides students with a much-needed break during finals week by allowing them to engage in the calming and creative activity of getting flower bouquets.  Additionally, Students have the opportunity to write letters to themselves as a powerful means of self-affirmation and self-encouragement, especially during stressful periods like finals, to bolster their self-esteem and motivation.

• December 7: Illumination Showcase    

  • Stop by the Library Illumination Showcase to boost your readiness for final exams by making use of the diverse resources provided by SCS, Tech training center and Klver lab. Resources include but not limited to laptops, calculators, free poster printing and assistance with Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, and Qualtrics. While here, why not participate in one of our stress relief activities!

Study Spaces

• December 6 & December 11: Community Extended Study Nights  

  • Join SWANA, NASO, NAISSC for an evening studying in solidarity in preparation for finals. A warm study environment and light snacks will be provided. All are open to join!

  • Tired of boring and ineffective study sessions? Join us for our Pomodoro Study session followed by an open study space!

• December 2: Writing Center Finals Open Lab    

  • Do you need last-minute writing advice and support during finals? If so, the Writing Center will have an online Open Lab on Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 10 AM to 2 PM. SJSU students who would like to get help from one of our trained writing tutors can join the Zoom link at any time and will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 20 minutes. 
    Our tutors support all types of writing, including research papers, literature reviews, essays, etc. We also help with the different stages of writing, such as drafting and revising. Finally, our writing tutors will answer your grammar, content, organization, and formatting questions.

• December 7:  Study Day Drop-In Tutoring

  • Meet with a tutor before finals, no appointment required! Tutors will be stationed at tables in SSC 600 to answer quick questions, or you can just hang out and study in a quiet place!

  • The Writing Center will be open for both online and in-person tutoring services during the entirety of final exams! Come see us for help with all your end-of-semester writing needs.

  • Come visit CAPISE during our open hours to grab some comfort snacks and supplies, study for finals, or unwind and be in community with fellow students! We'll have extended study hours the week before finals from Mon, 12/4 - Thurs, 12/7 where we will be open until 7:30 PM!

  • Need a scantron, a quick bite to eat, or a cup of coffee? Stop by one of our Finals Resources tables where we’ll be distributing testing materials, to-go food and drinks, and coffee and tea! Our tables will give you the extra boost you need to pass your finals!
