Leila Khatib
Assistant Professor
Biological Sciences, SJSU
Leila Khatib completed her doctoral degree at UC Irvine in Environmental Health Science and Policy specializing in molecular source tracking of infectious diseases. She worked over 10 years at a private consulting firm for the state and various municipalities in the area of water and wastewater before moving to the Bay Area. She currently is an assistant professor of virology at San Jose State where her research focuses on novel methods for detection of microbes in water, wastewater, and recycled water. Dr. Khatib is very interested in integrating computing into biological research and is currently collaborating with the computer science department to develop a platform that better predicts RNA secondary structure for novel molecular methods.
