Bio

Dr. Mildred M. Alvarez earned her Ph.D. in Psychology (Developmental) from Boston University. She did postdoctoral research at the University of Kansas and was a Visiting Fellow at Cornell University before joining the Psychology Department faculty at San José State University.

Dr Alvarez' primary interests focused on the role of ethnicity and gender in the socialization of emotion. She taught courses in Child and Adolescent Psychology. Over the years, she served as Associate Chair of the department, as a departmental advisor for undergraduate psychology majors and on various committees.
