Dr. Strage is currently Assistant Vice President for Faculty Development and Director, Center for Faculty Development at San Jose State University. In that capacity, she develops, implements and oversees programs to support the campus’s 1600+ faculty across the scope of their professional responsibilities and throughout the arc of their careers.

Her recent efforts have been supported by two American Council on Education/Sloan Foundation Faculty Career Flexibility awards, the most recent focusing on “Transitions to Retirement.”

Prior to her administrative appointment, Dr. Strage served as a faculty member in the SJSU Department of Child and Adolescent Development.

Her current research focuses on faculty development and career transitions and satisfaction.

Previous research foci include studies of:

• the effects of “high impact educational practices”
• effective teacher preparation practices, and 
• the antecedents and consequences of achievement motivation profiles in higher education settings

She has served as PI or Co-­‐PI on over $2.4M in federal and private foundation grants.   

She was named a Salzburg Global Seminar Fellow (2013); she received the Distinguished Service Award from San Jose State University (2010) as well as the KQED -­‐ Bay Area Local Hero Award (2003) and the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, Best Practices in Service-­‐Learning Award (2003), for her work developing innovative programs to prepare teachers to serve in high-­‐needs schools.

She holds a BA in Psychology from Barnard College, Columbia University (1977) and a PhD in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley (1984).
