Music Education
A degree in Music Education prepares you for the stimulating career of professional music teaching. San José State University Music Education degree and credential programs lead to the California music teacher credential, opening up diverse employment opportunities. Teaching is an exciting and fulfilling career choice for those interested in blending musicianship and teaching skills. As an educator with a California music credential, you are state-certified to teach all music classes at any level, kindergarten through high school. Examples include elementary music specialist, middle school or high school band, choir, or orchestra director, classroom guitar or piano, musical theater, composition, mariachi, drumming, and others.
San José State University offers one of the most highly acclaimed Music Education programs in California. Degrees include: the Bachelor of Music in Music Education, the preparation degree for the California Teaching Credential; a California Single Subject Credential Program for K-12 in music; a traditional Masters of Music in Music Education; and a three-summer Master of Arts in Music Education.
