Graduate

The Master of Science (M.S.) program provides graduates with advanced training in the geosciences, culminating in the completion of an independent research thesis project. Graduates of our program find work in a variety of fields, including environmental consulting, GIS, hydrology, geophysics, and engineering geology. Our graduates also pursue careers with research agencies, local and state government, and teaching institutions.

The Department of Geology is well-equipped to support graduate student education and research. We maintain two thin-section laboratories, a map library, a mineral museum, and three on-campus groundwater wells. Our equipment includes Trimble-GPS units and software, an infrared spectrometer, a gravimeter, a magnetometer, a Sedigraph, a Wilfley Table, and a host of rock saws and crushers. Students also have access to a computer laboratory with all the necessary software (e.g., ArcGIS) for analyzing and presenting data.
