Academic, Leaders, Mentors, Aiming for Success (A.L.M.A.S) de SJSU strives for the success in higher education for underrepresented students. They also commit themselves to creating a space for self-empowerment through awareness, culture, participation, and education. They uphold the belief that “the end of all education should surely be a service to others.” – Cesar E. Chavez.
El Espartano Noticias is a Spanish journalism organization on campus that focuses on local issues and stories that affect the Latinx community. Stories and experiences from students on campus is another angle we look at. Not only are we a news organization, but we are also a support group for students interested in writing and journalism. We host a safe space for all students, not just Latinx, but all students are welcome to our club. The main purpose of our club is to publish stories and support journalism students socially and academically.
Grupo Folklórico Luna y Sol provides opportunities for San José State University students and community members to learn about the history and traditions of folklórico dances from different regions of Mexico. Members are dedicated to the promotion, education and preservation of Mexican culture and traditions through music and dance. Members serve as educational and cultural ambassadors in the San José community and beyond.
Destino is a faith-based group within the Latino community here at SJSU. We aim to be a spiritual resource for all students on campus and be a place where students can grow spiritually in college.
Movimiento Estudiantil Xicano de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A). The goal of M.E.Ch.A is to uplift and empower folks in the LatinX community by advocating for higher ed, all while being in a culturally enriching environment. With many students coming from various but similar backgrounds. Sharing experiences and analyzing how to solve them together opens up various opportunities to gain leadership skills by being involved in community service events and workshops. Together we can communicate thoughts and ideas to further reach higher representation of LatinX scholars in four-year institutions.
Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists (SOLES) is a dual student chapter of MAES (Latinos in Engineering and Science) and SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers). They are a recognized student organization associated with the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San Jose State University. Their mission is to empower the community to reach its full potential by advancing Latino success in STEM at San Jose State University. Their vision is for SOLES graduates to become STEM professionals who continuously foster progress and innovation in the world.
Student Advocates for Higher Education (SAHE) at San José State University are motivated students mobilizing to create a strong student support group for undocumented immigrants (high school and college students). Under California's AB540 law, undocumented students who complete at least three years of High School in California are now eligible to pay resident tuition. However, these students still remain as undocumented and hence cannot receive federal financial aid, participate in most internship programs, work study, etc., due to their unfortunate immigrant legal status. Can you see the problem? Therefore, the purpose of SAHE is to encourage and increase the number of undocumented immigrant students attending and graduating from institutions of higher education. In addition, SAHE encourages active involvement in actions to change the status quo. SAHE promotes the advancement of "AB540 students" through community service, scholarship, leadership, and other educational resources. SAHE welcomes those who believe in our cause.

Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority, Inc. is a Chicana/Latina sorority. We promote higher education, community service and sisterhood. Our letters represent our sisterhood, commitment to each other and to our goals. We are Mujeres con Cultura, Fuerza y Hermandad.
