Programs for Students
Current Students
ASPIRE Program - Designed to provide support for traditionally underrepresented individuals, who
are low-income and first-generation college students or registered with a disability
hindering academic performance. ASPIRE offers resources for academic development,
assists students with basic college requirements, and motivates students toward the
successful completion of their postsecondary education.
Accessible Education Center - The San José State University Accessible Education Center (AEC), Division of Student Affairs, is a comprehensive center providing both students and employees with accommodations and services.
First Year Experiences - SJSU's First Year Experiences comprise a variety of classroom experiences, programs,
and services designed to help students make a successful transition from high school
to college.
Guardian Scholars - The Guardian Scholars Program is a network of support services for current and
former foster youth who want to attend and complete their college education at San
José State University.
Honors Programs - Each year SJSU recognizes students’ outstanding academic achievements at Honors
Convocation. Visit the Honors Convocation site to learn more about various academic
honors programs, including president’s and dean’s scholars, as well as graduating
with honors.
Humanities Honors Program - The Humanities Honors program brings together cohorts of exceptional freshman students
to complete most of their general education requirements in a unique, multi-disciplinary,
globally inclusive and collaborative four-semester program of humanities-centered
study.
McNair Scholars Program - If you are interested in pursuing graduate school, and will need
financial resources, consider applying to the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate
Achievement Program. This exciting pogram is designed to encourage low income individuals
who are first generation college students and / or underrepresented in graduate education
to pursue doctoral study.
ROTC - SJSU offers both Army and Air Force ROTC programs. Students can learn the fundamental
principles of national security and military history, as well as develop valuable
and leadership skills.
SJSU Salzburg Program - a Seminar program for faculty, administrators, staff, and students from US colleges
and universities that offers them an opportunity to explore pressing issues from an
international perspective during intensive week-long sessions in the heart of Austria.
Veterans Services - The Veterans Services Office assists eligible student veterans, active service
persons, dependents, reservists, and National Guard members with state and federal
education benefit programs.
Prospective Students
Pre-College Programs - San José State University's Pre-College Programs (PCP) foster student success and
accessibility to higher education in Silicon Valley. Its two programs, Upward Bound
and Educational Talent Search, provide a comprehensive network of services to help
participants develop the skills and motivation necessary to complete high school and
enter post-secondary education.
Step to College - SJSU sponsors a low-cost concurrent enrollment program for area high school students
through the Step-to-College program. Students must have permission from their school
principal and meet all SJSU course prerequisites, including placement exams. Contact
