Bio
Shaum P. Bhagat, Ph.D., CCC-A, F-AAA, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Audiology at San Jose State University. Previously, Dr. Bhagat served as Chair of the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences at SJSU. Dr. Bhagat also taught in the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) Program at the University of Memphis, and he served as Director of the Hearing Science Research Laboratory (HSRL). Dr. Bhagat has experience teaching several courses in the AuD curriculum, including Hearing Science, Auditory Electrophysiology, Hearing Conservation, Vestibular Assessment and Rehabilitation, Medical Audiology and Instrumentation and Calibration. The research conducted in the HSRL focused on examining otoacoustic emissions, or sounds emitted from human cochleae. Topics investigated in the HSRL provided insights into the effects of acoustic experiences and ototoxic medications on cochlear function and hearing. Dr. Bhagat has established research collaborations with colleagues at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and the Istituto di Ingegneria Biomedica in Milan, Italy.
Dr. Bhagat has published peer-reviewed journal articles in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, Hearing Research, Audiology and Neurotology, International Journal of Audiology, American Journal of Audiology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Pediatric Blood and Cancer, and the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology.
Dr. Bhagat enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, reading, going to movies, and watching college sporting events.
