Bio
Dr. Katheryn Rios has been a lecturer in the Mexican American Studies Department since
2008, after coming to SJSU as Visiting Professor in the fall of 2007. Her specialty
fields include Chicana/o literature and cultural studies; comparative U.S. ethnic
studies; and the theories and writing of U.S. and transnational feminists of color.
At SJSU she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in those fields, as well
as courses in “Public Address” and “Chicanas and Chicanos in U.S. Society.” Dr. Rios
completed her Ph.D. in English Literature and Language at Cornell University, with
two years as an Exchange Scholar in the Ethnic Studies Department at UC Berkeley.
She was Assistant Professor of English at CU Boulder from 1992-2004 and Visiting Professor
in the Chicano/Latino Studies Program at Portland State University in 2005.
