Bio
Erica Boas is a mother, educator, and an interdisciplinary scholar of sexuality, race, and education. Her work is deeply informed by her past career as an elementary school teacher and as a program mentor to high school students in locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. At SJSU she teaches future teachers in the Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences at San Jose State University. Her research focuses on the intersections of sexuality and race in institutions of schooling and their function in the social organization of human lives. Since 2012 she has researched sexual consent practices and beliefs with the research project "Consent Stories". Currently, she is conducting qualitative research on the political, social and educational processes cohering around the curricular implementation of California state sex education legislation (AB 329) which went into effect on January 1, 2016.
