  Abstract: This article is focsued on social activist and feminist Florence Ledyard Kitchelt and her participation in promoting the Equal Rights Amendment between 1943 and 1961. This research provides a different perspective on the complex nature of feminist ideology and the meaning of equality during this time period. Through the lens of Kitchelt?s interactions with specific women and groups, we can see the evolution of feminist views on social justice and equal rights feminism. Kitchelt?s experience with the National Woman?s Party (NWP) provides a brief snapshot of the larger conflict between women?s groups over the correct path to secure ?women?s equality? in the post-war years.
