Bio
Dr. Camille Johnson is a professor of management in the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business. She has previously served as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Success in the College of Social Sciences, Acting Director of the School of Management, Chief Operations Manager to the Provost, Director of Accreditation for the College of Business, and Chair of the University WASC Accreditation Committee. She has been on the faculty at SJSU since 2007.
She has a passion for helping others discover and meet their potential. Whether working with undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, or staff, she enjoys helping others prepare for future success - however they define it. As a natural boundary-spanner, she brings together people from different disciplines and backgrounds for professional and social relationship building.
She has developed and applied her expertise in leadership, management, and organizational development through service to the field of psychology. As a Fellow of the Society for Experimental Social Psychology, she conducts women’s leadership workshops for graduate students and new faculty and encourages women to take leadership roles in academia. Within the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, as a member of the Training Committee, she has developed 25+ professional development workshops, and as a member of the Sexual Harassment Task Force, has led the development of a new code of conduct and investigation process. She is currently a member of the SPSP Development Committee which raises money to support training and travel awards and was elected to the SPSP Executive Committee as Treasurer, beginning in 2022.
A member of the ACE Women's Network -Northern California since 2018, Dr. Johnson has served as State Chair since 2020. Through partnerships with HERC, the National Postdoctoral Assocation, and the ACE Women's Network - Southern California, she has created and conducted workshops for rising women leaders in higher education.
She has a B.A. in psychology from Carleton College, an M.A. in applied social psychology from Claremont Graduate University and a Ph.D. in social psychology from the Ohio State University, with a minor in quantitative psychology. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. She has published in the top journals in social psychology and her research interests include first-generation college student performance, social comparison, and interracial interactions. She recently published an analysis of women’s representation in academic conferences.
