Bio
Amy August is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Assistant Director of the Institute for the Study of Sport, Society and Social Change. Her research explores the intersections of sport, education, and family using primarily qualitative methods. Her most recent work is an ethnographic study comparing the forms of cultural capital recognized and rewarded by teachers and coaches in school and sport at the preschool level. She is also engaged in a collaborative, mixed-method project called the Kids' Involvement and Diversity Study, which investigates the scope and significance of organized youth sports and extracurricular activities for families in and around the Twin Cities of Minnesota.
