STUDY TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  1. Come to class, and be on time!

  2. Review your greensheet often, and know when things are due.

  3. Regularly check Jan's web site for updates.

  4. Always keep up with your reading - don't get behind!

  5. Always be aware of what materials (i.e., books, downloadable handouts, articles, etc.) you need to bring to class.

  6. Be prepared for class.  No, this does not mean just occupying a seat.  It means being prepared to discuss the reading and lecture material, and being ready to take careful notes.

  7. JS 10 STUDENTS: It is extremely helpful to download the appropriate chapter outline before you start reading the corresponding chapter in the textbook, and fill in extra information as you read.  It will cut down on how much note taking you will have to do in class, and will help you to be prepared to answer questions in class.  And in case you were wondering....Jan will ask you a lot of questions!

  8. JS 10 STUDENTS: On exam days bring a half-sheet scantron with you (available at the Spartan Bookstore) and either a traditional No. 2 pencil, or a mechanical pencil with HB lead (equivalent to No. 2).

  9. All students should always have paper handy - you never know when you are going to have a pop quiz!

  10. JS 10 STUDENTS: Although it is not mandatory, it is recommended that you bring your textbook with you to class.

  11. JS 100W STUDENTS: You should always have your textbooks with you in class.

  12. JS 10 STUDENTS: I will do my best to hold a study group prior to each exam.  The study groups will not be mandatory; however, if you sign up for one you are expected to attend.  I strongly encourage you all to start studying for your exams prior to the study groups being held, as they will likely be conducted only 3 to 4 days prior to your exams.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, AS A MEASURE OF COURTESY, PLEASE TURN OFF/SILENCE ALL CELL PHONES AND PAGERS, AND TURN OFF/SILENCE THE SOUND ON LAPTOPS AND PDAs
