THREE MORAL OBLIGATIONS THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH
#1: The moral obligation to be intelligent means you are compelled
to have a high level of understanding and to avoid over-simplification.
- Is there an anti-intellectual bias at SJSU?
- Why do we equal "genius" with "evil?"
- Why do we equate "simple" with "good?"
- Why do we call 'em "geeks," "nerds," and
"egg-heads?"
#2: The moral obligation to be compassionate means you are compelled
to feel the distress of others and have the desire to relieve it.
- When you see a homeless person, do you think?: I am one (or two or
three) paychecks away from being homeless.
- When you see a mentally disabled person do you think?: If I fall off
my bike without a helmet, this could be me . . .
- When you see someone who is seriously ill do you think?: Chance
effects us all. Only by the grace of god go I.
- Disabilities become more prevalent with age. Nearly everyone will
eventually experiences some form of disability.
#3: The moral obligation to be responsible means you are accountable
for your actions and capable of rational conduct.
- Being able to respond (respond / responsive / responsibility) in a healthy
way to stressors prevents distress and is salutary.
- Self-responsibility means taking personal responsibility for your own
well-being.
